Step Five: Build in Sustainability
Some ideas for “booster shots” are: picking a day a month and call it Turn Off Tuesday or Screen Free Saturday (your partners can tie some of their already scheduled events to this day and call it a “turn-off event”); talk with your local paper about having a “Screen Smart Tips” column each month and have your partners take one month each year to write a short column; ask partners to imbed the “be screen smart” message into their local programs (such as what our public library has done with removing baby videos, developing a flyer on Choosing the Right Videos and giving out information in their Books and Babies program); and ask partners to find opportunities to educate children and parents and promote the “be screen smart” message throughout the year.
